Common topics
How do I log a food?
On the Today tab, tap + on a meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or one of your own, like snacks), or use the floating + button to add to the meal for the time of day. Enter the name, servings, serving size, and the nutrition for one serving.
Does Rivid Fuel include a food database?
Not one of its own. Scan a package's barcode and its nutrition is looked up in Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central, or enter the nutrition yourself from the label. Once you've logged a food, it's suggested as you type, and picking it fills in its serving size and macros from the last time you had it.
How do I scan a barcode?
When adding a food, tap the barcode button next to the food name and hold the package's barcode inside the frame. The first time, allow Rivid Fuel to use the camera; if you turned that off, turn it back on in your device's Settings. You can also type the number printed under the barcode. Always check the values that fill in against the label before you save.
A barcode wasn't found. What now?
Not every product is in Open Food Facts or USDA FoodData Central yet. Enter the food from its label: Rivid Fuel remembers the barcode with it, so the next time you scan that package it fills in from your own history. If the app says it couldn't reach the food databases, check your internet connection and scan again.
Where does scanned nutrition come from?
From Open Food Facts, a free, collaborative food database whose data is available under the Open Database License, and from USDA FoodData Central (Branded Foods), U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, when Open Food Facts doesn't have the product. These databases are maintained by others, and their values can be incomplete or out of date.
How do I log a meal I cook at home?
Tap the calculator at the top of the Today tab, then New Home Meal. Add each ingredient (type it, pick a food you've had, or scan it) and how many servings the dish makes, and one serving's calories, macros, and tracked values are worked out for you. After saving, choose Log It to add a serving to today. Later, start typing the home meal's name when you add a food and pick it to fill in one serving.
What happens to logged foods when I change a home meal?
When you save a change to a home meal's ingredients or servings, you're asked whether to update the foods already logged from it or keep them as logged. Updating keeps the servings you had and refreshes the nutrition. Update Logged on the Home Meals page brings every home meal's logged foods up to date at any time.
Can I keep notes?
Yes. Write a note on a food when you add or edit it, or tap Day Note below the meals to write about the whole day. The Notes tab lists every note, newest first, and can show only day notes or only food notes. Notes are included in your backups.
How do I find something I ate?
Tap the search icon in the title bar of the History, Foods, or Notes tab. History finds the days with a matching food, meal, or note, or by day or date (like "Monday" or "Oct 4"); Foods narrows the list by name or by the meal or notes of a time you had them; Notes searches note text, the food or meal it's about, and the day or date.
What if I don't know the calories?
Leave calories empty and Rivid Fuel works them out from the protein, carbs, and fat you enter, at 4, 4, and 9 kcal per gram.
Can I repeat a meal I've had before?
Yes. An empty meal offers to copy the same meal from the last day you had it, or from any recent day, and you can swipe right on any item from another day to copy it to today.
Does Rivid Fuel require an internet connection?
No internet connection is required for the app's food-logging functions. Looking up a scanned barcode needs a connection, unless you've scanned that food before. External links such as this support page open in your device's web browser when you choose to use them.
How do I back up my data?
Use the Your Data section in Settings to export your food log, including your meals, home meals, and notes, to a JSON file and to restore it. Keep important backup files in a location you control. You can also print your food log, or save it as a PDF, with Fuel Journal.
How do purchases work?
Rivid Fuel starts with a free 14-day trial, then a one-time lifetime purchase unlocks it—no subscription. Current pricing is shown on the App Store and Google Play, and purchases are processed through the applicable app store. Use Settings → License, or Restore Purchases on the Welcome page, when you need to restore an eligible purchase. Without a trial or license the app is read only, and you can still export your data.
